Simplicity is a very simple rule to follow and does not need to be followed all the time. This rule is very useful for me when I am in the woods trying to take a great photo. It would seem extremely easy to take a great photo in such beautiful places like the woods but it isn't. The cluttered atmosphere and trees everywhere does not make an interesting photo. It actually can make it much more difficult to take a nice photo. There must be a definite subject or else the photo will look somewhat meaningless and cluttered.
Simplicity is an easy way to make a photo look better. Rather than taking a picture of five ducks take a picture of one single duck. It makes the photo much more simplistic.
As with stock photos, simplicity is very important. People that buy stock photos do not want complex images. They usually want isolated images of what they are interested in. If they want a picture of a tea cup they aren't going to want an entire tea set but just want one tea cup isolated from everything else.
